The Operations Manager is a half-time position responsible for managing the operational systems that support Friends of the Inyo’s preservation, exploration and stewardship programs. Responsibilities include budget administration/accounting, billing, taxes/fiscal compliance, contract and lease management, payroll, and health care and retirement plan administration. Start date is approximately August 1, 2017. Friends of the Inyo’s main office is located in Bishop, California.

Job Duties:

Maintain and use Friends of the Inyo’s (FOI) accounting system housed on Quickbooks for Nonprofits linked to GiftWorks. Make system improvements as necessary.
Prepare monthly reports of income, balance sheet and projected expenses.
Provide budget expertise at weekly staff meetings and FOI Board meetings.
Ensure federal, state and local taxes and employment compliance (EDD, Worker’s Comp. etc.)
Coordinate with outside accountant to produce financial statements and tax returns.
Maintain and reconcile bank accounts.
Accounts Receivable including billing and Contract management.
Implement and maintain an aggressive cost-control policy – quarterly review of expenses and scan for potential savings.
Work with FOI Program Managers to produce annual budgets each December, production of out year budget forecasting and real-time accounting of expenditures by program/project/grant.
Generate financial reports as requested for events, membership activities, grants, etc.
Human Resources
Maintain a staff time reporting & payroll system. Identify and implement improvements to current system.
Maintain files of I9, W2 and other required employee forms.
Administer health care and retirement benefits.
Fundraising & Membership
Manage grant financial tracking & reporting.
Produce financial & donor information for FOI Annual Report for mailing in February of each year.

Three years budget management/accounting/bookkeeping experience using Quickbooks (familiarity with non-profit accounting or a plus).
Three years payroll administration experience.
Corporate, preferably non-profit, tax return preparation experience, preferred.
Strong professional references showing ability to work independently.
